Steps to Make a Paper Chain Snake Craft
Kids will have so much fun arranging the alphabet paper strips in sequence to build their paper chain snake. They will enjoy cutting and putting the colorful loops together. So, let’s start making our paper chain snake!
Step 1
Download the paper chain snake template. Print the paper chains on colored construction papers and the snake head on white construction paper (US Letter size).
Simply enter your details in the form below to access the template and join our newsletter. We also have a plain paper chain template that you can print out if you prefer a version without the alphabets.

Step 2
Cut out the paper strips and all the parts of the snake craft.

Step 3
Let’s start making the paper chains. Creating a paper chain is a simple activity where you loop the paper strips into rings and connect them together.
Take the paper strip with the letter A and glue or staple the ends together to form a loop. Now, find the paper strip with the letter B and slide it through the first loop.
Finding the correct order of the alphabet turns this craft into a fun educational activity for kids.

Step 4
Now glue or staple the ends of paper strip B together to create an interconnected loop.

Step 5
Now take paper strip C and slide it through loop B. Then glue or staple the ends of strip C together to form another interconnected loop.

Step 6
Continue the same process until you reach the letter Z. By the end, kids will have created a long colorful paper chain snake while practicing putting all the alphabet strips in the correct order.
Let’s add the tail now. Take the longer paper strip and connect it to loop Z. Then glue the ends together to form a teardrop shape.

Step 7
Let’s make the paper chain snake’s face now. Take the snake face shape and glue the tongue onto the less curvy side of the face piece.
Next, stick on the eyes. Then use a black marker to draw two small dots under the eyes for the nostrils.

Step 8
Make a small cut at the top of the snake’s head. Then bring one side of the cut slightly over the other side and glue it in place.
This gives the snake’s head a slightly raised 3D shape.

Step 9
Now we need to connect the snake’s head to the paper chain. Take the small rectangle paper strip and glue one half of it under the snake’s head. Leave the other half unglued.

Step 10
Make a small fold on the paper strip. Then glue the other end inside the first paper loop to attach the snake’s head to the paper chain.

And your alphabet paper chain snake is ready!
