How do you make an ant craft- Step by step instructions
Watch the video tutorial or follow the written step-by-step instructions to learn how to make this adorable paper ant craft for kids.
Step 1
Download and print the ant template printable on A4 construction paper. You can access the printable library by signing up for our newsletters below.
Once the template is ready, kids can paint the front(head), middle(thorax) and back(abdomen) of the ant. We used watercolor for this. Now cut the painted parts out.

Step 2
For this ant craft, we will use a blue A4 cardstock to make a beautiful sky-themed backdrop. Cut a cloud shape out of white construction paper and glue it on the blue cardstock.
Now, let’s make a green hill for the ant to walk. Cut a small piece of green paper and stick it at the bottom of the blue cardstock.
Let’s make the sun now. Using a paper cup, draw part of a circle at the corner of a yellow construction paper and cut it out. Stick it at the top right corner of the blue cardstock. Also cut a few tiny triangles and stick them around the sun.

Step 3
Time to make the ant now! Cut two eyes out of the ant craft template and stick them on the ant’s face.
Stick the circle which forms the middle part of the ant on the blue cardstock a little above the green hill. Then stick the oval shape, which is the back part, slightly overlapping the middle part.
Now, comes the fun part. We are going to make the accordion folds to make a bobbling head for the ant. Cut two paper strips (approximately, 18 cmx1.5 cm) out of red construction paper and stick them together at a 90-degree angle. Fold the bottom strip over the top strip and crease the fold. Again, take the bottom strip over the top one and crease the fold. Repeat it till you run out of paper. Secure the ends at the last fold by adding a dab of glue.

Step 4
Stick one end of the accordion fold on the blue cardstock. Stick the ant’s head on the other end of the accordion fold. Cut the two antennae out of the ant template printable and stick them on top of the ant’s head. Draw the ant’s mouth and legs using a black marker.

Gently press the face down and the ant’s head will bobble now! Isn’t it cute?
We also made another paper ant craft on a yellow cardstock to create a sunny day background. We used brown paper to make a sand hill and green cardstock on the top to look like the branches of a tree.
