How to make a happy vs sad paper plate earth for Earth day

Step 1
Get two white big paper plates. Draw a few land masses inside one of the paper plates using a black marker. Now, paint the land masses green and the ocean section blue using water color or acrylic paint. Paint the other paper plate blue. Wait for the paint to dry.

Step 2
While they dry, download, and print the Happy vs Sad Earth craft printable on a white A4 construction paper. Color in the happy and sad mouths red. Cut out all the parts.

Step 3
Now, take the blue paper plate and find its center. To find the center of a paper plate, fold it in half vertically, then open it and fold it in half horizontally. You will get the center point where both the creases meet.
Now, hold both the paper plates together and make a hole through the center using a paper-knife. (Please note, this step has to be done by grown-ups only). Keep them together and secure at the center using a brad pin.
Now, cut a triangle or trapezoid out of the top paper plate as shown below.

Step 4
Stick two eyes for the Earth. Through the cutout, stick a circle shape on the bottom paper plate.
Show the circle and ask the kids if the earth will be happy or sad. For example, the earth will be sad if there is air pollution due to smoke coming out of vehicles. The earth will be happy if we recycle things. Stick the happy or sad mouth above the circle based on what is shown in the circle.
Now, rotate the top paper plate and stick the second set of circle and emotion on the bottom paper plate. Rotate again and stick the third circle and emotion, and so on. Your fun happy vs sad paper plate earth craft is ready!

Kids will love to rotate the paper plate and watch the earth’s feelings change. This is a fun craft for kids to learn about Earth and how it is affected by air pollution, water pollution, etc.
