Hardly a day passes without my 6-year-old saying the word ‘rainbow’! We love rainbows so much and today we want to share an easy paper plate rainbow craft with you.
This is a beautiful spring or St.Patrick’s day craft idea to do with toddlers, preschoolers, kindergarteners, and school-age kids. They might need help from adults at different stages depending on their age and skill levels. I am sure kids will love coming up with their own wonderful versions of the rainbow craft!
We have a free printable template that you can download to make the cloud and the raindrops. Kids can use paint or crayons or oil pastels to paint the rainbow. To make the raindrops, they need to thread some pieces of yarn through the paper plate which is a great fine motor activity.

How to make a paper plate rainbow craft?
Step 1
Get a paper plate and cut out one-third of it. Discard the smaller piece. With a pencil, draw a semicircle inside the bigger piece of the paper plate. Using a craft knife, cut it out along the pencil lines (to be done by adults only).

Step 2
Using a hole punch, make holes approximately 2 cms apart along the straight edge of the paper plate.

Step 3
Kids can now paint their rainbows using acrylic paints or crayons or oil pastels. Thread a piece of yarn through each hole and tie a knot.

Download and print our rainbow template on a white A4 cardstock or construction paper. Color in the two small circles pink. Cut out all the parts.

Step 4
Stick the cloud shapes covering the holes on the paper plate. Stick the eyes, cheeks and draw a mouth for the cloud in the middle. Now, cut out raindrop shapes from blue construction paper using the raindrop template. Stick a raindrop shape on each piece of yarn hanging from the paper plate.

The beautiful paper plate rainbow craft is ready! You can make it a hanging rainbow craft and hang it on the wall by sticking a double-sided sticker behind it or threading another yarn at the top of it.
