Steps to make a Father’s day rocket card
Follow the steps below to make an adorable rocket card craft for Dad this Father’s Day.
Step 1
First, download the Father’s Day rocket card template. Simply enter your details in the form below to access the template and join our newsletter.
Next, print the two pages of the Father’s Day rocket card template. Print page 1 on colored cardstock and page 2 on white cardstock.

Step 2
We printed the card on dark blue cardstock. Now cut it out along the rectangle outline.

Step 3
Using a paper knife, carefully cut out the small rectangle shape from the card. This step is best done by a grown-up.

Step 4
Fold the card in half. Crease it neatly to form the card base.

Step 5
Now take the second part of the rocket card template for the next step. This page includes the rocket, stars, moon, and pull-tab pieces.

Step 6
Color in the rocket, stars, and moon using markers. Kids will have so much fun coloring the rocket and getting creative with their favorite colors.
You can leave the rectangle pieces uncolored, as these will be used to make the pull-tab. Then, carefully cut out each piece from the template.

Step 7
Use the rectangle pieces for the pull-tab as a template. Trace them onto the colored cardstock and cut out pieces that match the color of your card base.

Step 8
Now, open the card base. Using a ruler and pencil, draw two lines from the top corners of the hollow rectangle shape up to the top edge of the card.
Then, apply glue to the small rectangle piece.

Step 9
Now, stick the small rectangle piece at the bottom of the hollow rectangle on the card, with the longer edge aligned parallel to the bottom of the hollow rectangle. Press it down firmly so it stays in place.
This small rectangle piece acts as a stopper for the pull tab, keeping it from sliding back in too far unless pushed firmly.

Step 10
Apply glue everywhere on the side of the hollow rectangle inside the card, except for the area between the two pencil lines at the top. Apply glue generously everywhere else, including on top of the small rectangle piece we just glued.

Step 11
Next, close the card and press the two sides firmly together so all parts stick, except for the area between the two pencil lines at the top.

Step 12
Once the glue has dried, take the longer rectangle strip that will form the pull tab and insert it through the top, where the card is unglued. Because the sides are firmly stuck together, the strip will stay straight and keep it from moving sideways.

Step 13
Now, place a double-sided sticker or a piece of Blu-Tack on the other end of the pull-tab strip and attach the rocket to it. You can also use glue to stick it, but using Blu-Tack or double-sided stickers helps it stand out more and ensures the rocket slides up and down smoothly without getting stuck.
Stick the stars onto the card and place the moon at the top. Arrange them neatly to create a fun space scene.

Step 14
Now it’s time to add our Father’s Day message! Write “Dad, I love you…” at the top of the pull tab. When Dad pulls it, the rocket zooms up to the moon and reveals the surprise message “to the moon and back!” Isn’t that so exciting for both Dad and kids?
