Are you ready to create a magical seahorse paper plate craft with your little ones? This fun craft project is the perfect way to engage in some creative fun with your family this summer!
All you need is a paper plate, cupcake liners, a few basic crafting supplies, and our printable template to have your child create a beautiful sponge-painted seahorse.

Supplies you need to make a seahorse paper plate craft
- One big paper plate
- Sea horse printable template (you can download it from our printable library by signing up for our newsletters).
- Paint
- Sponge
- Glue
- Cupcake liners
- Googly eyes
- Markers
- Scissors
- Two white A4 construction papers
- Pencil
- Stapler
Steps to make a paper plate sea horse craft
Our sea horse paper plate craft is perfect to add to your ocean unit studies. From their unique method of swimming to the special way they reproduce, seahorses have some really cool features that are sure to surprise and amaze kids!
Step 1
Download and print the printable sea horse template on two white A4 construction papers. You can get access to our printable library by signing up for our newsletters below.
After you sign up, you will get an email to confirm your subscription and once you confirm, you will get another email with a link and password to access our printable library. Open the printable library and you will be able to find our sea horse template under the section “Summer”.
Step 2
Cut out the parts from the template.
Hold the seahorse’s body template close to the back of the paper plate and trace it using a pencil. Now cut it out. Similarly, trace the seahorse’s head on the other piece of the paper plate using the head template and cut it out.
Step 3
Attach the seahorse’s head to the top of the body using a stapler.
Step 4
Get a clean dry sponge and squirt some paint onto it. Spread the paint on the sponge by folding and unfolding the sponge once. Tap the sponge on the seahorse’s body and face randomly to make some prints.
Get another color of paint on the other side of the sponge and repeat the above steps until you are happy with how the prints look. We used orange and violet colors for this seahorse.
Let the paint dry.
Step 5
Get some cupcake liners and cut the rim into different-sized pieces. Glue them behind the seahorse’s body starting from the top of the head. Stick one piece on the body too.
Now, draw some lines on the seahorse’s tummy using markers. Finally, stick a googly eye for the seahorse.
